Do i need my resonator on my exhaust?

i have a 92 caprice with a single pipe. i replaced the factory muffler with a 40 series flowmaster and wanted to know can i cut off the resonator? the resonator is located close to the tip, i know it would effect the sound but would it have an effect on the emissions??
