Will a 305 TPI work instead of a 305 engine?

I've got an 1986 Chevrolet caprice with a rod knocking. I can swap engines but I don't know what all will work. I've heard that if I put a 350 in its place they will fit the same but I will have to put a new computer in...Is this true? Also, I've seen the camaro iroc Z 305 TPI engines out there. Will that fit in a regular 305s place? What extra would I need to do besides putting the new engine in? The other thing is will the stock tranny on the caprice bolt up to a 350 or 305 TPI?
