Is it okay to kiss a boy on the cheek when you aren't dating and are in year 7?

there is this boy and i really like him but whenever i make hints he doesn't get it so i was going to step it up a notch by giving him a little kiss on the cheek and seeing what his reaction was. is it okay to do this or will it be a bit too much. BTW i do not want to ask him out as i am too embarrassed.
